The law profession hasn’t been friendly to women as they would like it to be. But female lawyers in New York have achieved a considerable amount of success, thanks to progressive firms that are working toward achieving gender equality in the private legal practice.

One such firm is Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, the largest corporate immigration law firm in the world. Forty-three percent of Fragomen’s partners are women. Many of them ascended to the top of their profession while raising a family, a feat that was otherwise thought unattainable in demanding practices such as trial law.

Davis Polk & Wardwell is another major US firm that supports the career advancement of female lawyers in New York. More than one-third of Davis Polk’s committees are chaired by women; 41 percent of its associates and 20 percent of its partners are also women. Davis Polk’s women partners are involved in all of the firm’s practice areas, including litigation, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, credit, investment management, tax, environmental, and real estate.
